Stepfather Gets 12 Years For Digital Rape

Judge Justice Daniel Goundar has sentenced a man to 12 years’ imprisonment for the digital rape his 12-year-old stepdaughter.

Digital rape is the act of using your fingers to violate and force a sexual and violent act.

Justice Goundar handed down the sentence from Suva to the 35-year-old fisher from Labasa via Skype conference.

It was heard that in February 2019, the man took the victim and her two younger siblings to a river in Labasa for a swim.

While there, the offender pulled the victim into the water and told her that he was going to touch her private parts.

When the victim began to cry, he stopped and told her not to report the incident to her mother.

However, the victim’s mother came to know of the incident and reported the matter to the Police.

Justice Goundar said the offender had expressed little remorse for his action.

“Digital penetration of a child’s genitals is equally serious as penile penetration,” he said.

Justice Goundar also issued a domestic violence restraining order with no contact and non-molestation conditions to protect the victim.

He said the offender was subject to the order for the rest of his life.
