A stop a departure order and cash bail of $10,000 are part of the strict bail conditions given to former lawyer, Shazran Abdul Lateef, when granted bail once again.

Lateef is charged with one count of being in possession of illicit drugs. The bail conditions were outlined by Suva Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama yesterday.

Lateef’s bail conditions include:

  • Cash bail of $10,000 – to be deposited in court;
  • Personal bond of $10,000 – to be signed by Lateef;
  • Surety bonds of $10,000 – with three suitable sureties who are citizens of Fiji with fixed income and permanent residential address with ties to the accused;
  • Lateef and all his sureties to surrender their valid travel documents in court and stop departure orders to be issued on all of them and same to be informed to immigration authorities forthwith;
  • Lateef to report to his nearest Police Station daily, seven days a week at any time between 8am and 4pm;
  • Lateef to nominate his preferred residential address and not to change his residence without permission of the court until this case is disposed;
  • He was warned not to reoffend or not to interfere with any of the prosecution witnesses.

In this case, it is alleged that Lateef on August 7, 2018, at Suva, was found with 0.0136 grams of methamphetamine.

In another matter, appearing before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili, Lateef’s lawyer, Filimoni Vosarogo, asked for more time to reconsider the consolidated charges and seek instructions for plea.

Lateef is charged alongside former Hibiscus Carnival contestant, Zoe Maharaj-Moore. In this case, Lateef and Maharaj-Moore are jointly charged with two counts of being in possession of illicit drugs. For the first count, it is alleged that Lateef and Maharaj-Moore on August 14, 2019, at Raiwai, without lawful authority, were found in possession of methamphetamine weighing 0.0063 grams.

For the second count, it is alleged that Lateef and Maharaj-Moore on August 14, 2019, at Raiwai, the pair were found in possession of marijuana weighing 07.5 grams.

The case has been deferred for plea on August 5.
