Naitasiri women will need to adapt to the new tackle rules when the Skipper Cup Premiership competition kicks off on Saturday.

Coach Elenoa Kunatuba said the new tackle rules would be introduced to improve player safety and minimise injuries.

“The biggest challenge we faced right now is not having enough time to teach the women about the new tackle rules but we are working on it,” Kunatuba said.

“They need to tackle below the waist and we’re working tirelessly for the team to adapt quickly to it.”

The Highlanders will face Lautoka in their opening game at Ratu Cakobau Park on Saturday.

Kunatuba said they were anticipating a good game despite having a young side.

“Like all other teams, we don’t prepare to lose so preparation has been slow due to COVID-19pandemic but we will take each game as it comes,” she said.

“We have been working on our basic skills, game awareness and game plan.

“Rugby is a team sport, it’s unfair to say we have some ‘big names’. We have a few players who have the potentials to be better.

“We are looking to have a good crack against Lautoka.”
