Commerce minister Faiyaz Koya has urged micro small and medium entreprises (MSMEs) to capitalise on the OpenMarket Day that will be held at Ratu Sukuna Park today.

“Everyone should be a part of the open day,” he said.

The event is organised by the Ministry of Employment, Youth and Productivity.

Thirty vendors have registered their interest in participating at the event, including Fijian Made licence holders.

Mr Koya said MSMEs should use the event to show Fiji their ware.

“It is a great initiative,” he said.

The Ministry of Commerce, Trade,  Tourism and Transport  will have a booth at the park where they will be generating awareness on Fijian Made campaign.

Collaboration

The event is a collaboration between four Government ministries and centres namely the:

  • Ministry of Commerce, Trade,  Tourism and Transport,
  • Ministry of Employment, Youth and Productivity.
  • Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, and
  • National Employment Centre.

Each ministry is expected to showcase its strengths at the open market day.

The market day  supports local talents and skills of the unemployed clients in marketing products.

It is also aimed at improving livelihoods given the economic impact of the coronavirus impact.

Stall are expected to feature a variety of fresh produce, homemade goodies, among a range of other goods.

Everything home made – from reccyled materials, pot plants, patchquilts, homemade jewellery, to home made meals and drinks, will be on sale.

The market day will be held between 9am and 5pm.

The formalities, including the arrival of the chief guest Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Mereseini Vuniwaqa  will begin at 10am.

The formalities proper  will conclude at 1pm.
