An elderly female cane cutter whose plight featured in SunBiz recently, was overwhelmed and surprised when financial assistance arrived unexpectedly at her door. An Australian citizen recently sent money for the 69-year-old of Siberia, Labasa. The widow said it was the first time ever someone from abroad offered to help her.

“I didn’t know that anyone would recognise my hard work and poor health status,” Ms Parvati said.

“I received so many criticisms from relatives and the public, and no one praised my hard work or commended my effort of looking after my two daughters and two mentally challenged grandchildren.”

Blessings

Ms Parvati said she had been praying for food to be delivered to her door.

“Only I know the kind of struggles I face and I don’t blame anyone,” the mother of five children said.

“I thank this woman of God from Sydney for blessing me with money and food.

“I also would like to thank Fiji Sun for publishing my story,” the eldest of 14 siblings said.

“I never thought they would capture my story while working under the hot sun in the cane field on July 30.”
