The mother of the latest road victim has pleaded with motorists to drive slowly when curfew is approaching.

Ana Tabusiga, 25, was crossing the road with her three-year-old son, Tevita Qoro, when he was allegedly hit by a van driven by a 45-year-old man, at Sukanaivalu Road in Lautoka on Sunday night.

Ms Tabusiga said they were on their way home when the tragedy happened.

“He was my eldest son and I have two children,” she said.

“Tevita was a kind, caring and special boy and I miss him very much.”

The family will hold the funeral on Thursday.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident saying the driver allegedly failed to stop. He was pursued by another vehicle up to the Lautoka Police Station where he surrendered himself.

Police investigations continue.

The road death toll currently stands at 24 compared to 38 for the same period last year.
