Garden Island Rootcrops Limited is trying its best to quickly deliver food supplies to Naitauba Island in the Lau Group.

This after its cargo truck with the supplies bound for the island slipped into the water at Backjetty in Taveuni on Tuesday.

Company manager, Bhim Chand, yesterday confirmed that the cargo truck was still at the jetty.

“My driver was reversing the truck when a portion of the jetty cracked, which caused the truck to slip,” Mr Chand said.

“The truck is stuck at the jetty with its back partly inside the water.”

He said the incident happened at around 3pm when the truck was bound for loading.

Mr Chand said they transport supplies to the Island every Tuesday.

“We are trying our best to get the supplies delivered quickly.”

Meanwhile, Fiji Roads Authority in a statement advised that the jetty was currently inaccessible due to the accident.
