Fareed Trial To Go Ahead

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will proceed with the trial against Mohammed Nouzab Fareed.

The former chief executive officer for Fijian Holdings Limited, who is widely known as Nouzab Fareed, is charged with three counts of indecent assault.

Fareed was not in court yesterday. But he was excused by the Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili as his counsel Hemendra Naagin from Sherani and Co had requested for Fareed’s presence to be excused until trial.

The matter was called yesterday at the Magistrates Court in Suva to check on the legal representations made by Mr Naagin to the DPP and the availability of the first complainant.

For the first two counts of indecent assault, this is in relation to the first complainant who alleged that Fareed committed the offence on two separate occasions in the months of June and September, 2019.

The third count of indecent assault is in relation to the second complainant who alleged that Fareed committed the offence in May, 2019.

The trial is set to be heard from December 1 to December 4.

Prosecutor Eoghn Samisoni from the DPP’s Office told the court one of the complainants was in South Korea and if she was not able to attend the trial, the prosecution would be making an application for video link evidence.

The court also heard that the second complainant in the matter was in Fiji.

The matter has been adjourned for trial this December. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
