Seremaia Tuwai, commonly known as ‘Jerry’, is one of Fiji’s most prolific seven athletes to ever don the white jersey.

Yesterday, President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote bestowed him a Medal of the Order of Fiji (MOF) during the 2018-2019 Order of Fiji Investiture ceremony at State House yesterday.

“I never thought I would receive such a medal like this from the President. And it has come as a pleasant surprise when I was informed of the medal ceremony,” he said.

“I want to thank God for the opportunity and my family for being my source of inspiration and Fiji in recognising the efforts and hard work of the people like me.”

He’s a Rio Olympic gold medalist and the 2019 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year.

The other 7s players who received the Medal of the Order of Fiji (MOF) are Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Jasa Veremalua, Vatemo Ravouvou, Alasio Naduva and  strength and conditioning coach Nacanieli Cawanibuka.

Fiji 7s coach Gareth Colin Baber received the Honorary Officer of the Order of Fiji (Hon. OF).

Fiji Rugby Union life members Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese and Pio Bosco Tikoisuva were made Officers of the Order of Fiji (OF).

Both also built distinguished careers in life after their playing days – Ratu Ilaitia in business and politics and Tikoisuva in public service and diplomacy.

The former captains/managers/sports administrators were members of the famous Flying Fijians that defeated the British and Irish Lions 25-21 in Suva in 1977.

Tuisese said:  “We are grateful for being recognised for what we achieved. I thought we did our job well during our playing days continuing the good for those who played before us.  We helped to let the world took notice that we are proud rugby nation. And for me and Pio to be recognised for our efforts, we are truly thankful.”
