Public Advisory On Heavy Rain

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) is advising those living in low lying areas to take precautionary measures following the advisory issued by the Fiji Meteorological Services Office.

The general public are advised to take heed of the heavy rain warning that has been issued for most parts of the country.

Due to continuous rainfall there will be high soil saturation, surface run offs and the possibility of landslides.

Vehicles and pedestrians to refrain from crossing flooded roads and walkways, ‘Turn Around, Don’t Drown’.

Parents and guardians are also advised to keep watch over children as we go into the weekend – refrain from playing in flooded areas because of risk of drowning and disease.

In case of landslides, the public is advised to first contact the Mineral Resources Department on 338 1611 or the NDMO on 3319 250 before any steps are taken to clear the slip.

The Public is also advised to continue monitoring the weather bulletins and forecasts on the radio or on the Fiji Meteorological Services Website at www.met.gov.fj and to listen to the radio for further updates.
