The installation of the flooring at the Fiji National University (FNU) the Sports Complex court has been deferred.

This was confirmed by a statement from the Fiji National University this week.

Sports Complex

“All building works at the Sports Complex at Nasinu Campus is also complete, however, the installation of flooring in the court area has been deferred as the specialist is unable to travel due to COVID-19 restrictions,” the statement stated.

“The Sports Complex is a state-of-the-art indoor sports and fitness gymnasium which will be used for teaching, learning and promoting health and wellness. It consists of an international level indoor court for sports like volleyball, basketball, netball, badminton and Futsal soccer.

“The gym also fits into the university’s health and wellness initiative to combat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), a chronic problem in Fiji. The facility also has a rainwater harvesting system.”

Meanwhile the four-storey College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (CBHTS) building at  the Nasinu Campus is expected to be completed in Semester 1, 2021.

“The College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies building consists of a 450-seater lecture theatre, tutorial rooms, lecture rooms, postgraduate center, cafeteria, toilet amenities, administration space and computer labs,” the statement stated.

“This will provide a teaching facility worthy of Fiji’s national University, as well as allow the College to enroll a larger number of students.

“The facility will provide FNU students with a better learning environment with state-of-the-art facilities and also uplifts the status of the universi ty.”

Labasa Campus

There has been no update on the FNU Labasa campus complex. The North complex was initially planned to open last year.

Construction work there started in 2018 and was earmarked for completion by January 2020.

The Labasa campus will have three lecture theatres, two computer laboratories, ten classrooms with video conferencing facilities and a library.

It will be able to accommodate around 2000 to 2500 students.
