Let’s Go Local: Sawa-I-Lau On Rugby Player’s List
Kavekini Tabu during a rugby training session.

Kavekini Tabu is not a new face to the rugby 7s fans.

The 26-year-old originally from Nukuilau, Navosa, is a national player, having represented Fiji in the 2019-2020 HSBC World Sevens Series alongside his brothers; Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Isoa Tabu.

While Mr Tabu is a well-known rugby player, he likes to keep his personal life out of the spotlight.

He usually shies away from any limelight, while continuing to follow his passion for rugby.

“I would like to think of myself as a humble person,” he said. He added that he works hard, and while he is not perfect, he aspires to continue growing and learning along the way. Mr Tabu currently plays for the Yamacia rugby club, together with his brothers.

What Are Your Hobbies?
I love to do a lot of things, but I do enjoy riding horses, fishing, reading and playing rugby.

How Many Places Have You Visited So Far In Fiji?

Playing rugby has taken me to a lot of places. I have been to Labasa, Savusavu, the beautiful island of Taveuni, Kadavu, Ovalau, Malolo Island and almost the most part of Viti Levu.

What’s One Place You’d Take Every Visitor To Fiji And Why?
I would take them to Nadina Authentic Fijian Restaurant in Denarau Island. Not only do they have mouth watering food, but also a perfect view of the sea. Their service is excellent as well. And if my visitor loves seafood, then I would take them to the Bonefish Seafood Restaurant in Port Denarau as well.

What’s Your Secret Backyard Favourite Spot?
I love the white sandy beach of the Natadola beach. It’s serene; peaceful and quiet and a great place for leisure.

What’s Your Favourite Place In Fiji For A Pie/coffee?
I enjoy coffee at Gloria Jean’s. They serve the best coffee in town with great customer service. Also, I can enjoy a cup of their tasty coffee all around Fiji because of the number of their outlets.

Gloria Jean’s in TappooCity, Lautoka.

That one spot I would love to visit is the Yasawasa. I have heard a great deal about the Sawa-I-Lau caves and have always wanted to visit – so that is definitely on my bucket list.
