Sugar City Ratepayers Group To Discuss Increase

Lautoka Residents and Ratepayers Association representative Narayan Reddy said the increase in rates would ill be one of the main issues discussed during the meeting with the Lautoka City Council next week.
The increase in rates was due to a requirement under the Local Government Act.
It required the Lautoka City Council to undertake a Sexennial Valuation exercise as per the average increase in Unimproved Capital Value (UCV) of properties is 15 to 16 per cent.
This means some properties are valued higher than 16 per cent and others lower.
“We will be meeting with the Lautoka City Council about the increase in city rates and we will be putting forth our submissions,” Mr Narayan said.
He said the next issue of concern was how the nationwide curfew from 11 pm to 4 am was impacting businesses.
The meeting details are yet to be confirmed but it will be held at the Lautoka City Council Chambers.
