Nadi Cricket will field two teams in a bid to claim the 2021 Crompton Cup in Suva during the Easter weekend.

Nadi Cricket Association interim chairman Lawrence Ellison revealed this after the completion of the Cricket Fiji T20 Bula Bash on Denarau.

“Moving forward we have a couple of weeks off and then we have selections for the two Nadi sides that will go away end of next month to Suva for the Crompton Cup,” he said.

He added these two squads will train and play games against each other as one unit.

“We will select an A and B side but the depth we will have a strong B side. We should be match fit not only to compete in Suva but to win the Crompton Cup. Everyone is welcome to try out for these two teams, we will narrow the tryouts down to 40 and then down to 32 (Two squads of 16 – only 14 players from each squad will travel),” he said.

Few notable names in the squad include national rep Sekove Ravoka, Osea Turuva, Ryan Markwell, John Spillane, Lawrence Ellison, bowler Shailen Sukdhoe, Nauman Hasan, Rush Pathak, Kaushal Tappoo (wk), Brad Rutherford, David Bell, and Clayton George.

Ellison said there has been some tremendous moves since the committee revived the sport in Nadi last year.

Lau based Team Moce is the holder of the Crompton Cup, the holy grail of Cricket in the country.

Meanwhile, the inaugural annual general meeting of the revived Nadi Cricket Association will be held on Thursday at the Namaka Park,at 5:30pm.

“All current players and managers as well as any players who are going to be playing in the new season starting May 1st. We will re-vote in all positions as all positions were interim until the AGM,” he said.
