Naitasiri Student Wins First Fight

Laisani Taramecegu Biau had only one goal when she left her village on Saturday.
And that was to win her first fight at the Commander Brown Gym and Fitness Centre, Walu Bay, Suva.
Biau met Heather Bale and won on points in the exhibition match during the TJs Golden Gloves Boxing Championship.
The win was a sweet one for the Year 11 student of Naitasiri Secondary School.
It was the first time for the 16-year-old Nakorosule, Naitasiri, native to participate in the ring. She was inspired by her uncle, a former amateur boxing star, Ulaiasi Qalomai.
“My uncle Ulai is my greatest inspiration in boxing,” she said.
“And it was because of him, I decided to start boxing. I’ve grown to love the sport and I’m happy with the win.
“I usually travel down to Nadawa to train, where our boxing club is based. I hope to continue boxing and at least have a match overseas one day,” she added.
Biau and her older sister, Loata Biau, are the only females in a team of five boxers from Nakorosule Village.
They are members of the Brave Boxing Club in Nadawa.
