Fifty-year-old businessman, Rohit Prasad, was refused bail at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday after Magistrate Nilmini Ferdinandez heard that he refused to assist Police in their investigation.

The accused was produced at court and charged with 23 counts of forgery and one count of being in possession of illegal documents.

The court heard that the accused was arrested following a joint operation conducted by the Fiji Police Force, Fiji Revenue and Customs Services and the Fiji Immigration Department last week.

The accused is alleged to have received a consignment containing forged travel documents whereby he was charged.

Further investigations and a search conducted at his residence resulted in the discovery of more alleged forged documents.

Defence Lawyer, Rajshneel Chand applied for bail application on a condition that the accused had two sureties. He was also willing to sign bail bond of $1000.

Police Prosecutor Inspector, Pramesh Chand told the court that the accused was not fully assisting the Police in their investigation.

“He refuses to give the Police his email address, his password on his laptop and other details. He was not assisting us in our investigation.”

On that account Magistrate Ferdinandez refused bail to the accused.

The case was adjourned to September 27, at Nadi Magistrate Court.
