The mother of four children who allegedly lost her life in a tragic incident in Teidamu, Lautoka on Wednesday will be remembered for her constant reminder of prioritising education.

The late, Saleshni Devi, 34, died in a car accident. It was alleged that the vehicle she was in went down a cliff on Wednesday evening.

Matawalu Village couple Sanaila Bula and his wife, Lusi Marakiwai were among the first witnesses to spot the vehicle and Ms Devi’s body at the bottom of the cliff.

Her niece, Shaniya Aichal, 18, of Davota, Tavua, said their family were still in shock surrounding the discovery of her late aunt. Aichal said her aunt, a former student of Balata High School, did not return home on Wednesday which got them worried.

“My aunt was a nice lady, a lady with a heart of gold,” she said.

“We used to chat on Facebook most of the time. We talked about family matters, and she stressed a lot about education. She invited us to come to her graduation in Lautoka where she had a big party in July 2020, we were not able to make it.”

Ms Devi attained her Bachelor of Arts Degree and Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Fiji in July. The family members are awaiting the post-mortem result to determine the date of the funeral arrangements.

She is survived by husband, Ajay and their four children.

Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro said Police were waiting for the result from the post-mortem before classifying the case.
