Former Fiji resident, Mohammed Hanif and his Abu Bakar family have joined hands to assist their aunt in Raviravi, Ba build a new home.

Their aunt, Fatima Bi, 66, or fondly known to many of her close friends and family as ‘baby’ lost her three bedroom home in a fire last month.

The widow resided with her sons, Usman Ali, 26 and Nizam Ali, 34.

The family is currently living with another family member, Abdul Rasheed and his family who live about five metres away.

Mr Hanif who now resides in California, United States of America grew up in Lomolomo, Lautoka before migrating to the USA 16 years ago.

He said it was an unfortunate situation his elderly aunt had to go through, especially during a time when COVID-19 was still around.

“I came to know about the incident on social media and it was shared within our family and that was when we got together to decide on what we should do to help,” he said.

“I have sent some cash for their food and they are now satisfied that they have enough food.”

He said his family’s main focus now was to help rebuild the home.

“This would cost us about FJD$20, 000,” he said.

The family will begin rebuilding the home once they receive the report from Police and the National Fire Authority.

His brother-in-law and Lautoka businessman, Hafiz Rahman will facilitate all dealings in Fiji.
