Lautoka based Doctor Kaushal Kumar was hosted to a double celebration at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka on Sunday.

The 28-year-old marked the engagement to his sweetheart Raksha Naicker, a registered nurse, while also celebrating his recent graduation after attaining a Master’s in Public Health from Fiji National University’s Fiji School of Medicine.

“It is all about hard work, and we are happy to have this celebration event around our friends and family. We were just waiting for COVID pandemic to ease, finally the restrictions were lifted,” he said.

He said he proposed to his fiancé early this year while they were working together in the pandemic frontlines.

“It was love at first sight, the rest is history, but it was hard as we had many dates and I was busy with 12- hour shift work during COVID,” he said.

The bride-to -be shared similar sentiments and said that it would be a night to remember.

Doctor Kumar completed his MBBS programme at the FNU’s Fiji School of Medicine in 2017 and began his practice at the Punjas Health Centre in Lautoka while Ms Naicker graduated with a Diploma in Nursing in 2019 with plans to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma nursing.

Mr Kumar is the son of Narend Kumar, who is the Tanoa Group of Hotels Area General Manager Fiji.

Meanwhile, those present at the occasion included medical officers and the Minister for Employment, Productivity, and Industrial Relations and Youth and Sports Parveen Bala.

He congratulated the front-line medical professionals and acknowledged their work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Your work is commended and make no mistake about it, it will be remembered and honored by all Fijians for a very long time,” he said.
