Roko Tui Warns: Double Check Information Sources

Before sharing any piece of information it is important to check the reliability of that information source, says Roko Tui Nadi, Iosefo Rovereivalu.
Mr Rovereivalu said people must only use information from reliable sources such as Fijian Government News Portal, The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and reputable newspapers and broadcasters.
Mr Rovereivalu made these comments due to past flood pictures that have been shared widely on social media platforms.
He said the images were deceiving to the general public.
“There’s a series of pictures of the past floods in Nadi and as well as the other parts of Fiji that are being shared in many social media sites that are inaccurate and are deceiving the public at large,” he said.
“During this time of crisis we must have the right mindset with the accurate kind of information.
“So people who need help will be afforded the right kinds of assistance.”
Warning
He has also warned village heads and residents of settlements on the importance of following instructions by Government authorities.
“As the cyclone has gone past us and the depression has weakened, continuous monitoring of villages and settlements by village headmen and committees is still paramount,” he said.
He said this is to avoid injuries, sickness and diseases brought about by the flooding waters.
