Many years of facing hardship in securing a proper home has come to an end for Sabira Bibi.

The 64-year-old of Valebasoga, Labasa was overwhelmed when she was assisted with the purchase of building materials for the construction of her new house.

This was through the aid of the Macuata Muslim League.

The construction of the new house took place at a new location in Valebasoga after her previous house at a different area was in an old and deteriorated state.

Ms Bibi thanked the organisation for its support just a week before Christmas last month saying it was the greatest gift she received, a week before Christmas.

Cyclone season

She said the new property provided her with a safe dwelling, especially during this cyclone season, which had been a previous challenge.

Tropical Cyclone Yasa in 2020 had damaged her previous house.

“The roof was blown off and the strong winds destroyed large portions of the house.”

She recalled a near-death experience where a pile of debris and soil from a landslide during TC Yasa had entered the house. She said she was fortunate to have survived the ordeal.

She said during TC Cody, she was relieved that her years of cyclone hardship and fear had finally come to an end, where the effects of floods and landslides were minimised.

“I am a lonely person with no children or husband to support me, so this new home is like a family to me now, which provides me warmth, love and security,” Ms Bibi said

Ms Bibi plans to construct a verandah, she hopes Non-Government Organisations or Government would assist her.
