Developing Relationships Crucial: Gollings

The deferment of travel to Spain is a good opportunity for new Fiji sevens head coach Ben Gollings to get to know his players.
This came after a few players and management were tested positive for COVID-19.
Before taking up the top job from interim coach Saiasi Fuli, Golling’s challenge is to know his players and how they play.
Speaking to Fiji Rugby media the former England sevens star said it was the perfect time to develop relationship with the players.
“It was brilliant and great to get a view first hand of what they doing and how they are training,” he said.
“It is just starting to develop that relationship and jump in and out, have a little chat of what they going through just understanding the players what they going through what they seeing.
“Just adding a little bit of what I’m seeing, just trying to group feeding at this stage.
“It was a great session and the boys worked really hard and I’m really pleased with what I saw.”
Gollings added that it is observations and small chats for now with the team.
“For me it was just observing, they got their training routine I didn’t want to interrupt because we were close to two big tournaments,” he said. “
It was about getting to see what they were doing.
“My main aim was to have small conversations with the players just to get to know them and start to build that relationship.
“We developed that this morning when it was really my first time in front of the players, all that session was really about opening the doors and setting the tone towards the me and the players. “
It has been about relationship building.”
