Water problems are the major issue facing Nasoki Villagers on Moala Island in Lau.

The issue was raised by Nasoki Village headman, Inia Cakacaka, during the talanoa session held at Keteira Village yesterday.

“We have two tanks in the village, and it always drys up. We close the tank at 9pm and open it again at 6am,” Mr Cakacaka said.

“This has become a problem for us, and we hope that this can be addressed.

“We have 23 houses and 141 people at Nasoki Village. We source our water from the mountain and it is drying up. Water is important and we need something to be done about it.

“At times, other villagers from the other villages on Moala don’t want to come to our village because of the water problem that we frequently face.”

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) representative present during the talanoa session has advised Mr Cakacaka to clean their water source and to write a formal letter to them.

The authority’s representative also advised Mr Cakacaka to set up a water committee for the village. Edited by Jonathan Bryce
