Taxi Fare Increase To Be Raised At Budget Consultation

Fiji Taxi Association President Raben Singh says he looks forward to highlighting a number of issues during the 2022-2023 National Budget consultation in Lautoka today.
The Minister of Economy and Attorney- General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum will be speaking at the consultation at the Sugar Cane Growers Council hall at Drasa Avenue, from 10am to 12pm.
Mr Singh said the main issue of concern for taxi operators was the need for an increase in taxi fares.
“We want to ask them about this because the fuel price increase has had an impact on taxi operators.”
“We have sent a letter to FCCC (Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission) but there’s been no reply,” he said.
He hopes that Mr Sayed-Khaiyum would suggest a practical solution that would ease the issue.
“I am hoping that at least he would fast pace this taxi fare issue with the FCCC (Fijian Competition & Consumer Commission) because some drivers are struggling and have families to look after,” he said.
A separate budget consultation will be held at the Nadi Civic Centre from 2pm to 4pm today.
