A Nadi family is celebrating following the reopening of their kava bar and restaurant in Namaka, Nadi, two weeks ago.

The Chill Zone Café and Kava Bar, located across the Fiji National University’s Namaka Campus burnt down on March 7.

Thousands of dollars worth of food supplies and the structure were lost in the fire. Nothing was saved.

Owners, Rishal Chandra, and his wife, Ashwini, told the Fiji Sun it was an exciting moment to be back in business.

Mr Chandra, 29, said it was also through his father’s hard work and determination that the business reopened. He said close to $40,000 was spent on rebuilding and getting the facility back in shape.

“Another reason I wanted to run the business again is so that it can help me pay off my loans to the bank,” he said.

“One month after the fire had destroyed our business, we began getting things back in place slowly and today we have reopened. We are so happy.”

He said the public and usual customers had been more than supportive.

“I believe we have reopened at the right time as our international borders have also reopened and we are looking forward to success now with this business,” he added.
