Growers Fund Invests In More Job Schemes

The Sugar Cane Growers Fund is investing in more individuals to join the organization under the Government’s ‘Stronger Together Jobs Support’ Scheme.
The job scheme was introduced by the Government during the COVID-19 global pandemic providing the much needed unemployment assistance to many out-of-work Fijians.
The SCGF is an approved employer under the scheme, recently employing three women. A total of 16 employees are employed at the SCGF under the job scheme.
Under the scheme, the incoming employees are paid $3.50 an hour where a six per cent Fiji National Provident Fund employee contribution is deducted.
The three women, Ashlin Prasad and Unaisi Mataitoga, Bachelor of Commerce students at the University of Fiji and Shahista Sheik, also a Bachelor of Commerce student at the University of the South Pacific began with the SCGF last month.
Ms Prasad, 23, said she was grateful to be part of the SCGF family under the timely scheme provided by the Government.
Ms Sheik, 25 highlighted that one of her goals was to have more knowledge about the sugar industry while being employed at the SCGF.
Ms Mataitoga, 25 was content to be among the different ethnic groups at the SCGF.
SCGF Human Resource Officer, Prithi Ram said some of the work that the women were required to do was to assist in the loans department, assist in compiling legal cases and prepare demand notices to the sugarcane growers.
They will complete their work with the SCGF on October 14.
