Six contestants are vying for top honours in this year’s Back to Ba Carnival. The annual carnival which is the first festival to be hosted in Ba following the COVID-19 pandemic is hosted by the Ba Vision Centre and sponsored by Shop N Save Supermarket and APCO Coatings.

The weeklong festival was officially opened by the carnival’s committee chairman, Tulsi Ram at the Ba Market Grounds on Saturday. It was attended hundreds of Ba residents.

The six contestants are Miss Hashtag Café and Restaurant, Atrisha Aspirita Devi, 17, Miss Avantika, Avantika Anjali Prasad, 18, Miss Shazia, Nazhaat Ali, 19, Miss Ashmita, Ashmita Shaleen Chand, 20, Miss Erevi, Erevi Lewanikoro, 19, and Miss Zareen, Zareen Rukshar, 24.

Mr Ram said the purpose of the carnival was to raise funds to enable further extension of the centre.

He said the Ba Vision Centre was an eye clinic which had been serving the people of Ba and other districts, including tourists for many years.

“This clinic has been there for the past 12 years and we want to extend our services to all the villages and settlements,” he said.

Today is youth night and also the first public judging for all queen contestants. The carnival  will conclude this Saturday.
