Biman Prasad; NFP Committed To Multiracial Fiji With PA

After being labelled as a weak leader for not condemning racist statements made by a provisional candidate yesterday, the National Federation Party (NFP) leader Biman Prasad has hit back.
The People’s Alliance (PA) provisional candidate Liliana Warid faced backlash after penning an opinion piece bordering strongly on racism.
NFP which is a coalition partner of PA has not condemned the statement saying that they have confidence in their partnership with the party.
The Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum labelled Mr Prasad as a weak leader for not condemning the opinion piece.
In response, Mr Prasad said the party was committed to a multi-racial, dynamic Fiji in its partnership with the People’s Alliance.
“All Fiji’s citizens, no matter their race and cultural background, are equal citizens of Fiji. NFP has fought for and honoured that principle for nearly 60 years,” he said.
“Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum is desperate. He is trying to run away from the real problems of Fiji’s people. He wants to talk about something else.”
Mr Prasad said that Mr Sayed-Khaiyum was nothing compared to NFP and that the party would live on even after the Attorney-General was forgotten.
“Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum does not want to talk about the cost of living, increasing poverty and our declining health services,” he said.
“He does not want to talk about the climate of fear and dictatorship his government has created.”
“So instead he tries to make up exaggerated stories of racism. He will continue to do this as he gets more desperate and the election comes nearer.”
