For the first time the Australian rugby league schoolboys will play a test match against their Fiji counterparts at Suva’s Albert Park at the end of this month.

Fiji National Rugby League chief executive officer Don Natabe has confirmed that the Australian side will arrive on September 26.
“We have confirmed their arrival and grateful that the green light has been given for the match to be held at Albert Park,” Natabe said.
The match will be held on Friday, September 30.

“Our schoolboys have always gone overseas for this, this is the first time the Australian schoolboys are coming over and we are priviledged,” he said.
The Australian schoolboys’ team is recognised as part of the National Rugby League’s elite pathway development, and it is in this capacity that the annually-selected team dons the green and gold colours of Australia. The 17-member Australian schoolboys’ team was named in July following the end of their 2022 season.

Meanwhile, Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League president Naisa Cama while confirming the Australian schoolboys playing in Fiji said they need to wait for the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts’ reply on the issue.

“Players that have been named into the national schoolboys and schoolgirls teams’ are training at their respective schools under the watchful eyes of their coaches,”Cama said.

“We need the approval of the education ministry before we can release anything,” he said.
Cama has confirmed that majority of those in their national teams are also representing their schools in the schools’ rugby union competition.
