The Magistrates Court in Nadi yesterday further remanded Saiyad Muktar Nabi, who is charged with allegedly attempting to murder his 9-month-old son.

Saiyad Muktar Nabi is charged with one count of attempted murder.

It is alleged that on September 3, following a heated argument with his wife in their home in Namotomoto, Nadi, Nabi allegedly forcefully took their 9-month-old son and drove towards the Namotomoto Bridge.

He is alleged to have intentionally driven his vehicle into the river, where bystanders managed to save them both. The baby did not sustain serious injuries and was treated at the Nadi Hospital.

The matter was heard before Resident Magistrate, Peni Dalituicama, and Nabi was represented by Rajshneel Chand of JK Singh lawyers while the prosecution was represented by Corporal Mikaele Salele.

Objection To Bail

Corporal Salele told the court that the prosecution was objecting to bail for Nabi.

Magistrate Dalituicama transferred the matter to the High Court in Lautoka due to the seriousness of the charges.

The court heard that Mr Chand would file a formal bail application for his client at the High Court in Lautoka.

The matter has been adjourned to September 14 for mention at the High Court in Lautoka.
