Four Terms For 2023

The 2023 academic year will have four terms with 10 weeks per term.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Premila Kumar said the proposal was well received by stakeholders.

“Each term will be for 10 weeks which adds up to approximately 200 days which is over the minimum required days for schools to open for classes as set out in the Education Act 29 (7b) which clearly states that schools should be open for not less than 195 days in any school year.”

Below are new term dates:

  • Term 1: January 30 – April 6
  • Term 2: April 24 – June 30
  • Term 3: July 17 – September 22
  • Term 4: October 9 – December 15

“Shorter terms and four terms will allow teachers to rest and recharge, reducing the burnout and of course the stress that they go through,” Ms Kumar said.

“The four terms are in alignment with New Zealand and Australia school terms.”

“The new school model will also allow the spread of sporting events over three terms.

“If we spread sporting events over three terms that means the child can make a choice in more than one sport.

Below are the external exam dates:

  • Year 8: December 5 – December 7
  • Year 12: November 28 – December 8
  • Year 13: November 14 – November 24
