People say travelling up the interior of Viti Levu is only for the brave.

It’s a common saying because of its geographical location high up in the mountains, making it a real challenge for any visitor.

Travelling takes a whole day, by foot and vehicle and it’s not a journey for the faint-hearted – only for those brave enough to take on the challenge.

That’s what Unravel Fiji a new tourism business venture has to offer.

In every business, there is a purpose that laid the foundation of its existence, Unravel Viti provides an unforgettable experience touring the highlands of Viti Levu.

The business aligns its mission and values to its vision by strengthening collaboration with the public and private sector, as well as valuing the Vanua’s rich culture and traditions by ensuring that approaches do not harm the traditions and long-lived culture of these remote communities.

Managing director Sekove Nabogi Wara who hails from the Village of Nalawa in Ra sets a vision to provide an unforgettable travel experience for tourists not forgetting locals.

With a mission to execute tour services that are comprehensive, through a multi-sectoral approach, quality range of vehicles, carefully screened chauffeurs, and our specially designed tours package for the ultimate “UNRAVEL VITI” experience.

Background

Rentals, Tours and Transfers is a common business that thrives within our Tourism sector, thus it should be based on a well-established foundation and experience.

Pare Rentals Tours and Transfers was registered in 2017 and had not been involved in any business dealing since then until 2019. It was hired for an inland tour excursions for locals, that eventually led to planning for the scoping and implementation of an inland tours package.

The business is under sole trader ownership with Mr Wara as the director and to make this even more interesting and quite challenging, the move was also created to empower youths in their small knit communities to take up opportunities that come their way.

Taraiasi Wara Unravel Viti Co- Director said the company had secured stop overs for tourists at Nasivikoso Village, Nabutautau Village, Navai Village and Nausori Highlands village, Bukuya Village, Nanoko Village and Naiyaca Village to cater for their packages in the busy peak period of tourist arrival late November, and December as well as 2023 moving forward.

Mr Taraiasi Wara said it was a huge success through consultation with the Vanua and the manner of following the i-taukei traditional protocols which includes the i-sevusevu a tradition that all those who enter a village, will have to present to seek approval, i-kerei and the Vakavinavinaka which translate as a show of appreciation once the Vanua confirms its coalition with the company to conduct business.

The packages that they had finalised had undergone careful research and analysis and a realistic costing plan.

The packages include a range of activities, breakfast for camping package, lunch, dinner and entertainment, and display of handicraft skills from locals that would benefit both, tourists in terms of learning experience and locals through revenue injection, as well as bonfire folklore stories specific to that community, which will be shared by their tour guides.

Card System

The business is also looking at doing transfers, and set up payment plans via card system tap and go for the inland communities as a backup plan to cushion the impacts of such events that tend to take a toll on the business venture.

The Company aims to give tourists a unique slice of the Fiji experience as its slogan states “Unravel Viti”.

The company does not only think of the businesses well-being but takes into account the development of the involved community which directly contributes to the economy’s Gross Domestic Product and improving the very livelihood of villagers in terms of revenue injection.

The business also aims to provide an excellent standard of service, considering the safety of customers paramount.

They envision a safe and comfortable ride for tourists not only from overseas, but locals as well.
