The Kaiviti Silktails will need to beat Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Churchill Park in Lautoka, on Saturday to put their New South Wales Rugby League’s (NSWRL) Ron Massey Cup campaign back on track.

This was after they were beaten 17-16 by Penrith Brothers in the opening round at Cabramatta’s New Era Stadium on Sunday.

After scoring two unanswered tries midway through the second half, halfback Immanuel Tagaloamatua sealed the win with a 73rd minute field goal. The Silktails led 16-6 at halftime but errors started to creep in after the break.

The Silktails clash against the Bulldogs will be a double-header with the Melanesian Cup where last year’s Vanua State of Origin winners Western Maroon State taking on the winner of the Digicel Rugby League competition winners from Papua New Guinea, Hela Wigman.

Saturday’s fixtures

1.30pm Kaiviti Silktails v Canterbury Bulldogs (Ron Massey Cup)

3pm Melanesian Cup: Western Maroon State (Fiji) v Hela Wigman (PNG)
