The Turaga na Qaranivalu, Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, is understood to be on the list of applicants applying for a Presidential pardon.

Ratu Inoke was sentenced by the High Court in Suva in 2011, after he was found guilty of inciting the November 2000 attempted mutiny at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.

The Fiji Sun has established that the province of Naitasiri, through the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA), was in the process of formalising the application.

Adi Lagamu Baledrokadroka, the wife of the Qaranivalu, confirmed yesterday that they had received correspondence that Ratu Inoke was supposed to be released in time of the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting in Bau.

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Siromi Turaga, said: “The Office of the Attorney-General will not be making any public comments on this matter until all due process as outlined in Section 119 of the 2013 Constitution has been completed.”
