Still A Lot of Work To Be Done: Mark Evans

There is still a lot of work to be done despite the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua’s 41-17 win against Reds last Saturday, says chief executive officer Mark Evans.
Speaking to SUNSports, Evans said he was pleased with the win as they booked a spot in the quarterfinals only in their second year.
He described the crowd in Suva was sensational.
“It was something we sought out to do in the beginning of the year as we’ve come a long way and we still got a long way to go but we should enjoy tonight (Saturday) for what it is,” he said.
“We live to fight another week and we’re off to New Zealand one way or another,” he added.
Evans said the first-half points didn’t reflect the game as he believed the Fijian Drua was a better team.
“They scored two line-out driving tries and we know there’s a lot of work to be done in that area and we’ve improved a lot in areas we lacked last year,” he said.
Evans said the way the game was refereed now, it’s difficult to defend line-out drives in your line and defending lineout mauls would top the list in areas that the Fijian Drua need to improve on next season.
“We got another game now and we’re going to New Zealand as we’ll be outsiders and we’ll see how we go,” he said.
The Drua will face defending champions Crusaders at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch at 7.05pm on Saturday.
“I think it’s a successful year whichever way you want to look at it and in the beginning of the way we wanted to make finals football and we have,” he said.
“Sports is a funny thing and I’m already thinking about next week and next season.”
“You enjoy it for a little while, but it don’t last very long because there’s always a next challenge and I suppose that’s why we love it so much,” he added.
Evans was impressed with Joseva Tamani and Kalaveti Ravouvou’s performance against the Queensland Reds.
“I thought they played very well , but they played very well all season so there’s no surprise,” he said.
“We wish Kala and Joe the very best as they’re always part of the Drua story.”
“Who knows they’re both young men and they may be part of the Drua story some other point down the line,” he added.
