A Lautoka-based doctor realises his long-standing dream by opening a new clinic in the Sugar City.

Dr Kaushal Kumar, who has been serving at the Punjas Health Centre under the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in Lautoka for five years, has taken a step forward in his career.

“At 30 years old, I never imagined I would establish my own clinic. It has always been my dream, and I am hopeful for its success,” Dr Kumar said.

While contemplating the idea for some time, the former Natabua High School student finally decided to make the transition to the private sector this year, despite the challenges.

“Medicine has been my sole focus and passion.”

Dr Kumar completed his MBBS at the Fiji National University, followed by a post-graduate diploma and a Masters in Public Health a year ago.

His experience at the Punjas Health Centre, where he treated diverse patients, further honed his skills.

Located near the bus stand and the market, the Life Centre clinic anticipates serving a minimum of 30 patients daily.

He acknowledged his family’s pivotal role in helping him realize his vision.

“My parents and wife have been incredibly supportive throughout this journey. They have played a major role in establishing this clinic.”

The clinic is an investment of approximately $100,000 and boasts a comprehensive range of services, including general practitioner consultations, specialist appointments, minor surgeries, procedures, an in-house radiology department, and laboratory facilities. Additionally, the clinic offers day admissions forward services.

Dr Kumar’s wife, Raksha Naicker, a nurse by profession, serves as the clinic manager. Together, they aim to provide quality medical care while balancing their roles as parents to their baby.

“This idea was driven by Dr Kumar, and we saw an opportunity to not only assist patients but also take care of our child. We aim to cater to individuals seeking top-notch medical facilities,” Ms Naicker said.

“The demand for such services is high, considering the long waiting times in public health centers. At our clinic, patients will experience shorter wait times and receive quality care.”

The opening of Dr Kumar’s clinic marks a significant milestone in his professional journey, reflecting his commitment to delivering exceptional healthcare services to the community.
