Lal will face tough competition from the Queensland bowling team.
The Ba BC representative is the favorite to take out the title.
“I have prepared well to defend my singles title,” said Lal.
“I won the competition in 1997, 1999 and last year and this year I am confident to win the title for the second year.
“The competition will be tough as I have to against Queenslanders.
“Six players are in the team and they will compete in the singles division and in pairs.
“I have started training at the greens from the beginning of this week. The club was closed for renovations for a month and on Monday I had the opportunity to train there.
“I have played in overseas competitions prior to the Pineapple Cup which has given me a lot of exposure.
“My aim is to win this prestigious local competition which is the most important silverware in bowling.
“After the Pineapple Cup I will play in South Pacific Bowling Carnival which will start on Monday.
“The competition will serve as a build up towards the carnival,” added Lal.
