An absolute screamer by golden boots Sailesh Sami Bula handed Lautoka an invaluable win over Suva in the pool of death last night.
Veteran striker Bula volleyed home the winner from close range after clinical exchange of passes between Netani Momoivalu and Jone Vono Junior split open the Suva defence before goalkeeper Alifereti Baleloa spilled Vono attempt into Bula’s path.
The 31-year-old said the Blues would be in the semis on Monday to try and win their third FACT title.
“We want this trophy and the boys showed it by the way they played. This team can go on and win it.’’
“I was confident about scoring the goal. I timed my run,’’ he said.
Lautoka started the game strongly and put together a lot of passes before forwards Bula, Jone Vono Junior and Netani Momoivalu started raiding the Suva goal midway into the first half. Star Suva striker Joseph Nimariau was well marked by Laitia Tuilau and Alvin Avinesh and hardly given time to control the ball.
Vono could have put the game beyond Suva’s reach in the second half when he again split open the Suva defence this time beating two defenders before placing the ball wide with only Baleiloa at his mercy. Bula who led by example said experience was the key factor in the win.
“We have a very strong team. Some very experienced players and also young players that gave their best. Players like Osea Masi, Isikeli Seva, Jone Vono and Alvin Avinesh.
He said youngsters Arvind Naidu, Netani Momoivalu and Marika Madigi were outstanding. “We played really well, the way we wanted. I’m very happy for the boys and I know we will continue from where we have left off tomorrow.’’ “It was a good game and we are looking forward to another win tomorrow over Nadroga.’’
Shop n Save Lautoka plays Nadroga at 2pm today.
