I remember in the 80’s, Ba having so much problems in matching the pace of Suva. They would resort to delaying tactics just to kill the momentum of the game. (late) Jone Nakosia would take all the time in the world to pull up his socks before resuming play.
Ba and Suva used to play possession soccer a lot and people liked to watch that. Ba still can hold on to possession like before. Both teams would chase each other up for possession but Suva could it better.
Recently I met a friend in town and he compared the Fiji FACT with a table tennis game because of so much ball movement without any team holding on to the ball for a reasonable period of time.
Rewa showed a lot of promise against Ba. They dominated but Ba had a chance and they used it.
Rewa had equal opportunities but they just couldn’t finish it off. Ba is yet to play to that different level to say they are really a class above rest of the teams I expected more from Suva’s Vanuatu boys but it’s early and we have the whole weekend so it’s not over yet for Suva. Probably they need time to settle down.
I was hoping for Suva to least come out of the game with a point.
I still believe Suva can go through from this pool with Lautoka. But full marks to Lautoka. Like I mentioned said Lautoka is a very good team and I was impressed with the precision of their counter attacking and how they could put the ball into right places for their players.

q Tony Kabakoro is a former Suva and Fiji team midfielder who first played at national level in 1978. He was just 16 when he toured New Zealand with the national U-19 team and later in the same year the feared dreadlocked central midfielder earned his first cap for Fiji.
