Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA . Nadroga rugby mentor, Reverend Joji Rinakama was yesterday happy to know that some of his young upcoming players have been sighted by Flying Fijians Coach Ilivasi Tabua.
Rinakama has been the backbone of developing young Nadroga ruggers and he has seen the selection as a good result of his work.
Two young and budding players, Epeli Vuicuvu and Jonetani Ralulu have been sighted by Tabua.
The two played for Stallions in the Franchise Colonial Cup competition.
Ralulu has been named in the Flying Fijians along with some other former Nadroga players who ply their trade overseas like Wame Lewaravu, Aca Ratuva and Maleli Kunavore.
“I’m really happy that Ralulu has made it in to the Flying Fijians.”
“However, he has to try and improve from there on.”
Rinakama aired the same sentiments for young Vuicuvu who plays at centre and wing.
Vuicuvu was earlier sighted by Digicel sevens coach Josateki Savou after the BP national sevens tournament but did not attend the fitness test.
Young Vuicuvu concentrated on the full code and got the nod to play in the Fiji Warriors team for the Pacific Rugby Cup.
He has now continued to impress selectors and will be in the shadow team for the PNC.
The 20 year old player was named alongside Nadroga team mates and former Digicel sevens reps, Isimeli Koniferdi and Rupeni Nasiga.
Ralulu is expected to be Luveniyali’s cover at the upcoming PNC match against Samoa and the Flying Fijians.
Meanwhile, Rinakama’s Nadroga team will miss the service of Vuicuvu, and Nasiga with Emosi Vucago who is currently away with the national sevens team.
Rinakama said they will miss Vucago especially when his partner in the field of play, Jiuta Lutumailagi is back and will be playing tomorrow when they take on Naitasiri.
“We will miss Emosi and we would love to have him as soon as he returns.”
Nadroga team: Tiko Matawalu, Jerry Naureure, Apisai Turukawa, Filipe Kurvoli, Sikeli Donu, Iliesa Ratuva, Mosese Volavola (c), Marika Waqavou, Samu Laqai, Jiuta Lutumailagi, Waisea Emuri, Timoci Mule, Maika Koroi, Maikeli Mocetadra, Simeli Koniferedi.
