Written By : AMIT RAJ. In-form striker Kamal Hassan broke the Suva hearts by scoring a controversial yet an extraordinary goal as Rewa notched a vital 2-0 win in the pool of death.
Undoubtedly the best goal of Day Two in the second day of 2008 Fiji Bitter FACT, the Davuilevu lad collected a pass from 20 yards out by being in what looked like an offside position before cleverly rounding off Suva goalie Alifereti Baleiloa at the edge of his box then placing the ball right on the goal line before going down on the ground to push the ball in with his head
“Well actually today the thought of scoring a goal like that did come to my mind. But hardly at this level we can score such a goal. And once knowing I had beaten the Suva goalkeeper I knew how I wanted to put it in,’’ he said.
“I was thinking if I get a chance today (yesterday) I will dribble past the keeper and put it in with my head and I did it. I’m feeling very good because I’ve started scoring goals now. I hope to score more goals for Rewa in the next game,’’ Kamal said. He said a win over Lautoka was vital today.
“I will give my 110 per cent to make sure Rewa is in the semifinal.’’ Rewa coach Kamal Swamy said, “It was a class goal. He had no one to beat so he came up with how he wanted to put it in and I’m sure the goal must have brought joy to the Rewa fans.’’
Suva meanwhile desperate for a win after losing on day one fell behind early in the game when defender Moh’d Mufin in his first outing at the Fiji FACT put the ball into the Suva net while trying to deal with a cross.
Suva conceded the goal within the opening five minutes and in the next five lost key defenders Akariva Dau and Esava Naqeleca to injuries.
With the Rewa moves up to second spot in the pool to set up an exciting battle against Lautoka at 3.45pm in what will be a grudge match after bad blood between the officials of the two teams since the National League fixture this year.
