Manwaring made the statement before the national women’s basketball team left for Nadi from the Holiday Inn in Suva yesterday afternoon.
“It’s important for the public not to have high expectations,” he said.
Manwaring said this is because Fiji is currently ranked 58 in the world and would be playing two top ranked teams.
“They will go and represent Fiji the best way they can and be compatible in every way they can,” Manwaring said.
“They have never had a chance to watch top world ranking teams live.
“Watching them on DVDs and live is different.”
Manwaring said it would almost be unimaginable and the tour was really about gaining experience.
“This is an opportunity of a life time.”
“The girls will be watching players who are bigger, faster, stronger and more physical.
“It will be something they will not get again.”
Manwaring said the team’s preparation would not be as tough as the team’s they would be playing against.
“We are like the low ranked amateurs but we have got to go with the best we’ve got.”
Manwaring added the girls would give their best shot although they knew their chance of getting an Olympic spot was rare.
He said the best thing about having the girls competing at that level was to learn from the experience and come back home to share it with other local players.
The Fiji women’s basketball team would be led by Mikaelar Whippy and assisted by Valerie Nainima. The two are United States- based players attending Long Island University in New York.
