Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. The Fiji National Rugby League has selected a new manager for their rugby League World Cup team.
The Vodafone Fiji Bati would now have the services of Ilaitia Naqau as the new team manager.
Naqau is the manager of the champion Nadera Panthers side.
He takes over from Rusiate Ratakele, who will now fully concentrate on the administration work.
Makoi Bulldogs manager, Tomi Finau will assist Naqau as they try and raise the funds needed to help in their World Cup campaign said Fiji Bati head coach, Joe Rabele.
Naqau and Finau are not new to the sport as they have been with FNRL through throughout its years of operation.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Bati elite squad marched into camp yesterday as they prepare for their June 17 clash against the Australian Interstate team.
Rabele said the team selected would only work on recapping on the basics that they have been taught.
“We will also need to play a fast pace game and we will work on that. Apart from concentrating on that, we will work on our defence as well.”
Rabele has been praising the attitude of the new set of players ever since they were selected.
“They have been adapting well and the competition level in the clubs has really improved. I thank Namatakula because they showed this in their game last week,” he said.
Namatakula was the only team in the Vodafone Cup competition that remained unbeaten.
“There were only four old players in the squad, the rest are new players that we thought has improved drastically in their games.”
Rabele also named new find Semi Cakau as a player who had done a lot to improve himself.
The team would break camp on Friday before they marched back in on Monday.
Rabele was expected to go down to the west after the Bati match against the AIT to help improve the western based- teams in their knowledge of the game.
