Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. Sensational winger and Sorokoba native Vilimoni Delasau joined the Flying Fijians camp yesterday.
This was confirmed by Fiji Rugby Union High Performance Unit manager Peter Murphy.
Murphy also revealed that France based- centre Maleli Kunavore would not be able to feature for the national side against Samoa on Saturday.
“Kunavore is unable to make the side due to club commitments,” Murphy said.
He said Kunavore’s exclusion was because of the French T14 competition which does not end until June 28.
However, Delasau’s French club AS Clermont has released him on the ground that they keep Napolioni Nalaga back to finish their club games.
“We wanted both of them (Delasau and Nalaga) but we understand why they want Nalaga to stay back.
“He is the top try scorer and that is the main reason they held him back.”
Meanwhile, Stormers Super 14 winger, Sireli Naqelevuki is yet to arrive into the country.
He said the Kadavu man, a former naval officer would arrive into the country tomorrow.
“He (Naqelevuki) will be received by FRU at the Nadi airport and taken straight to camp. He will be given time to rest and recover from the jet lag.”
Murphy said Naqelevuki’s manager and coach in South Africa have told the national team management that he (Naqelevuki) has desire and interest to play for Fiji.
“I have an electronic copy of his ticket and it shows that he will be in on Thursday. We are also mindful that he has arrived late into our programme.
“We will be doing a player welfare assessment and see how he runs with the team on Thursday afternoon.”
Murphy said whether Naqelevuki makes the first lineup or not would depend on the management.
Flying Fijians head coach Ilivasi Tabua is expected to name his starting line up on Thursday evening.
