Written By : RITESH KUMAR . Sevens maestro Waisale Serevi is available to guide the Digicel national 7s team for the new 2008/2009 IRB world sevens series including the World Cup defence in Dubai.
“I’m available to coach and play for the national team at the World Cup,” Serevi said.
“I will apply for the job when it is advertised in the newspapers. The Fiji Rugby Union has made a good decision to advertise the position as all the coaches will now have a chance to apply for the job.
“I will talk to FRU when I’m free to discuss about their plans for next year. FRU has a lot of ideas on their mind and after I meet with them, I will apply for the position.
“The national side played well in the last leg of the IRB series in London and Scotland. I thank the management, players, selectors and technical advisors for helping the team in 2007/ 2008 IRB series.
“We will have a good side for next year’s world cup if the young players are motivated towards the right direction,” said Serevi who turned 40 last month.
Serevi left the country yesterday evening to play at a sevens tournament in Italy.
“I have been invited to play for the Roman team in the Roma sevens tournament which starts on Friday.
“Penguin club from England, Argentina and British Army teams will compete in the tournament.
“I enjoy 7s rugby as a coach/player and playing at international tournaments will keep me fit for next year’s world cup,” Serevi added.
