Written By : VUNIWAQA BOLA. Fiji Warriors coach, Ifereimi Tawake and his boys would not take the Papua New Guinea team lightly.
Tawake who is coaching the Flying Fijians shadow team yesterday said although PNG is not heard of in the Union code, they cannot be given an easy run.
“They play league and have beaten the Fiji Bati before.”
“We will not be playing them for the sake of playing rugby.”
Tawake said his players also have the task of proving themselves to Flying Fijians head coach, Ilivasi Tabua in order to make it into the main team.
After the inclusion of Saula Radidi and Marika Vakacegu into the Flying Fijians squad, Tawake said it has boosted the boys.
“We have been talking with Ili and now the players realize that the door for them to make it in is still widely open.”
“We have had two matches with the main team and we have been able to point out our weakness.”
“I’m really happy that two of the boys have been moved up.”
Tawake added the duo; Vakacegu and Radidi are two players that have been doing well and one that Fiji would look to in the future.
He said the pressure was put on his players to play according to the game plan.
“I have also told them to play according to the style Fijians are known for.”
Tawake said he knows the forwards will be able to rise to the challenge and provide a pathway for the backline to finish.
“We have a good set of young and fast backline who are also good finishers.”
Fiji Barbarians fly halves, Ravai Fatiaki and Amani Bosenawai would contest for the number 10 jersey.
Tawake has also made a call to the rugby loving public to go out in numbers and support both Fiji teams.
“We have only watched and we can only watch the World Cup team on television, Saturday would be a good day to watch the Fiji boys.”
Also assisting Tawake is Nadroga backline coach, Esala Nauga.
