This comes as the association gets ready to host the Fiji Open event which will be held on June 13-16 at Pacific Harbor.
“This gives the opportunity to see the development of the sport in the country. We get professionals from overseas and we get to learn from them,” Waqavonovono said.
Around 140 players will be participating in the tournament which will also see golfers from Australia, New Zealand and Korea. The tournament was officially launched yesterday and organizers are hoping for a good outing.
“For us this is a significant day as we have managed to acquire the trophy which was first played for in 1970. This was the original Fiji Open Bowl,” the secretary said.
On the other hand defending champion Tony Christie has also booked a place to defend his title. Local talent Neelkash Ram will also be present.
Vodafone Manager Corporate Affairs Shailendra Prasad says they are hoping for a memorable Fiji Open 2008.
“Judging by the number of participants last year and the interest shown so far this year, it has all the making of yet another fantastic Vodafone Fiji Open. Interest this year is overwhelming with a big list of professional golfers coming from overseas. We have been associated with NGAF for the last two years and during this period, Fiji Golf has achieved some milestone achievement and very good international outing,” Prasad said.
“We are looking forward to a successful tournament,” he said.
