image Written By : Sun Fiji Sportsdesk. Striker Elliot Ragomo will be the key player for the Solomon Islands side in the Vodafone Oceania Futsal Championship at the Vodafone Arena in Suva on Sunday.
The side is confident of a win in their opening game against New Zealand at 5pm.
“The players have prepared well and we are confident of winning all our games,” said Solomon Islands coach Victor Waiia.
“We selected young players and most of them are 17 years old.
“Captain Ragomo is 18 years old and is a very good striker. He played well in the club competition.
“Likewise players like Alick Lioka, James Egata and Philip Houtarau played well at club level.
“New Zealand will be a tough team to beat in the opening game. They selected an experienced side for the championship.
“Most of their players played for the national team in last years Oceania World Cup playoffs.
“We lost to New Zealand, Australia and Fiji in the 2004 qualifying championship. The players are confident to make the country proud.
Solomon Islands plays their second game against Fiji on Tuesday.
“Fiji have home ground advantage.
“We will play each game as a final and we are confident of winning against Fiji,” added Waiia.
