Written By : Sun Fiji Sportsdesk. Training for the national Futsal team in the week building up to the Vodafone OFC Futsal Championship 2008 has been affected due to players being fatigue after the Fiji FACT tournament last week.
Coach Intiaz Khan believes that this maybe a factor but has a plan in mind.
“The tiredness after playing in the Fiji FACT has affected the players and our preparation. We are trying to get players to relax like going to the movies, grog sessions. This has also contributed as a team bonding exercise,” Khan said. Fiji will have their hands full on Sunday as they take on New Caledonia 8pm at the Vodafone Arena.
“The first game is the most important game as it sets the right mood for the rest of the tournament. We are now anxiously waiting for the tournament to start and we cannot wait we want to play,” he said.
“Chances for us look good but we are aware of the challenges that may come from teams like Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands will be tough,” he added.
Futsal championship holds a ticket to the World Cup in Brazil later this year.
“We are urging the players to think of a spot in the World Cup going in these playoffs. Representing Fiji and making a name for themselves in the history books for the first national team to qualify,” Khan said.
“We are calling on fans to come out in numbers and support the team to victory.”
The first round of matches will be played tomorrow.
