Written By : Sun FijiSportsdesk. After winning the pairs’ event at the Vodafone South Pacific Bowling Carnival, Australian Steve O’ Regon has set his sight on the fours event which started yesterday.
Regan, who finished as runner up at last year’s fours event, is from the Lilydale Bowling Club in Melbourne. He has been coming to the carnival for five years in a row this year.
“A lot of overseas bowlers are coming back to the carnival because they are enjoying it. The competition level is very good and I have also played against a lot of Fiji reps. They are really excellent and very tough,” Regan said.
Regan at the pair’s event was partnered by local bowler Arun Kumar. They beat Australian Kevin Pearson and Wayne Mclennon 16-7.
“I had a good partner in the pair’s event. After losing the first match we thought we were going to struggle but Arun bowled well and kept us in the game. We happy to win the event and now look forward to the fours,” Regan said.
In the fours event he has teamed up with Peter Thaggard, Lema Matailevu, and Caucau Turagabeci.
“We finished as runner-up last year and this year we are hoping to do better. The weather has not been favorable but the greens are holding up in Suva. A lot of overseas bowlers had been adapting to this conditions well,” he said.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division Sheryl Marr and Mary Fugawai defeated Sai Walker and Marica Reynolds 14-13 in a close encounter to take the women’s pairs’ title.
